故事背景 :
漂浮在空中, 被外殼所包裹的巨大球體都市“科庫恩（コクーン）”與外界完全隔離, 科庫恩被水晶保護著,與外隔絕了數千年,由水晶所生的巨大機械和生物守護並繁榮.是一個擁有最先進文明的世界, 同時又是個融合魔法與科技的時代.
身處科庫恩的居民過著安逸的生活,他們唯一懼怕的便是來自於下界“巴爾斯（バルス）”的「外界異物」.直到一天「外界異物」開始入侵科庫恩，維護科庫恩安定的組織「聖府」決定用其龐大武力對抗迎擊。
由於對「外界異物」所產生的恐懼使得科庫恩的居民之間開始相互猜疑、相互憎恨, 聖府決定對此進行特殊的處置, 宣布將逮捕受到「外界異物」影響的居民, 並強制移住下界, 這實際上就是放逐. 但事實比放逐更加無情—— 作為和平象徵的水晶親自挑選了「閃電」並讓其去消滅毀滅世界的人類.
